After Vicksburg was the town of Natchez, Mississippi where we had to pull over to refill our fuel for the 130 mile void to Baton Rouge. As we pulled ashore, a young man waved me down and said he saw us from the bridge. With mainly barges using this portion of the river, a barrel raft sticks out like a sore thumb, and he had to check it out. Sam, as it turns out, was an awesome guy to meet and works for the Natchez Democrat, the local paper. Sam took some photos and information about our journey, then helped us get fuel and oil. Thanks man, that was a huge help. On our way to Baton Rouge woo-hoo!
Stormed all day, though only rained for a two hours.
Sunrise, dramatic and regular.
Birds in trees at dawn this morning.
Major Cities to go: Baton Rouge & New Orleans
Countdown: 5 days left!
Glad I got to see this and meet one of you guys be safe and be careful
Good luck guys & Skully, can’t wait to see the end!!! I’m so Jealous.
OMG, the adrenalin must be rushing and the exhaustion diminishing. The checkered flag is so very close so slow down and breath and appreciate your stamina during your very last Mississippi River moments. You’ve gone farther than most of us ever bravely even think we could. Good thing Mardi Gras is not going on, though, as I think you’d get stuck on taking many booby shots and that’s what we’d be looking at next…sunrise? Your end goal and party date is Saturday, September 13 you rafting all the way to Pass Christian, Mississippi where Tanner’s brother Robb, sister Kelli and nephew Hunter live. I see you haven’t mentioned the miles of actual Gulf ocean journey you decided to challenge after salt-water lake Pontchartrain. Binger, I think you will need a much bigger fishing rod; so BRB & D, please wear your life jackets…SHARKS! PS – boat will be for sale upon arrival; anyone up for the next challenge?
you guys are awsome always wanted to do that keep on floatin and god nledd
I have a lot of family in Natchez. Good people, just don’t ask for a beer unless you want to spend the day hearing a baptist tell you its the devils juice!
Hang around Baton Rouge through Sunday. LSU has their first home game of the season Sat. If you have never been GEAUX.
Dawn, I’m with you, will miss the great adventure. Great writing and pictures.
I don’t want this adventure to end! I have followed you from day 1 and also feel like I am on the raft with you!
Such GREAT pictures and commentary, it makes me feel like I am there taking the trip with you! Thanks.
