I always like to explain to people that, that sand is pumped (or dumped) up there from the bottom of “the muddy ole Miss” river. The river really has a beautiful sand bottom but gets mud dumped on it in flood conditions from the small tributaries that run into it from the rich farmland around it. That also contributes to the clarity of the water when the barges stir it up, other wise in the winter the river is VERY clear.
