Left MN with 2, entered LA with 3

Been on the river so long we are all going crazy! Skinny, sunburned, koo-koo and straight-up rugged at this point in the journey, we are in Cajun Country now.

Rainbow during a quick moving storm, we pushed right on through it to make it to an island for camping. Sunsets seem to be more brilliant after storms.

Met Zach kayaking down the river, he started in Wisconsin on the exact same day we did, July 14. He posts on his facebook. Zach floated with us for a couple hours through the storm, towing his kayak alongside. We all celebrated as we drifted past the last part of the state of Mississippi and entered into our first and only continuous state, Louisiana. It was enjoyable finding another adventurer on the river, sharing stories about the past 8 weeks and having a potato dinner together. Good luck on the rest of your journey Zach, it was great to have met you!

Discovered some wild boar on the banks, but we weren’t close enough for pictures or to take them down with a .22 rifle. We did however catch some cows having a drink on the rivers edge in the morning fog.

A Roseate Spoonbill and White Heron on the bank later that day. There have been tons of birds on the entire trip; the change in climate has produced fantastic and interesting changes in the bird species as we’ve descended down the river.

Coming into Baton Rouge today! Juicy burgers and possibly a LSU game await us in this major city, our LAST until New Orleans.

As of now, we are planning to pass New Orleans on Tuesday and turn off on the Gulf outlet canal. By doing this we’ll have to float about 40 miles through industrial bayou, but it will allow us to spill out into the actual Gulf of Mexico! We will then ride the coast for about 20 miles to a nice beach in the state of Mississippi where we will be having our party Saturday night. Everybody is welcome, please contact us for more details 🙂
